Scoring Configuration

Every scoring parameter in RoundBoss is configurable from the manager Settings tab. Adjust values to match your league's preferences.

Handicap Settings

  • Rolling Average Weeks — How many of a player's most recent played results (a score or a missed week) are used to calculate their rolling average (default 5). The window is state-based — it counts results the player actually played, not calendar weeks, so pre-generated future weeks never dilute the average. A smaller number makes handicaps more reactive; a larger number smooths out variance.
  • Seed Grace Weeks — Number of opening weeks (1 through N) during which seeded players keep their seed (established handicap) before the rolling average takes over. Default 0 (no grace).
  • New Member Grace Weeks — Number of opening weeks (1 through N) during which unseeded players get no average and no strokes, until they've built up enough of their own scores. Default 0 (no grace).
  • Handicap Label — Choose whether to display "Handicap" or "Average" on player-facing pages.

Stroke Allocation

Strokes are based on the difference between two players' rolling averages, multiplied by a stroke factor (default: 0.9). The result is rounded down to a whole number. Strokes are applied to the hardest-rated holes on the course, starting with the number one handicap hole. The stroke factor is adjustable.

Team Match Play Settings

For leagues using the Team Match Play format, additional settings are available:

Sweep bonus points3 points

  • Sweep bonus points can be adjusted mid-season from the Settings tab.

Once teams are created, you cannot change the team size. Decide on team size before you start building teams.

Team Handicap Cap

For team formats — Best Ball, Scramble, Alternate Shot, and Team Match Play — managers can set a per-team default handicap cap that limits the effective handicap strokes a team receives. The cap is configured per-team on the Teams tab (Handicap Cap field, 0–72) and propagates to every future unlocked round.

  • Set the cap to any value to limit strokes (e.g., cap of 5 means no team receives more than 5 handicap strokes)
  • Set the cap to 0 for scratch play (no handicap strokes)
  • Each round snapshots the team cap at creation, so editing the team cap later doesn't change frozen rounds
  • Per-round overrides via the Match Settings or Team Settings modal still beat the cap (precedence: session override → persisted override → cap → live handicap)

Per-Player Handicap Overrides

In individual match formats, managers can override the handicap for a specific player on a specific match. This is useful when a player's calculated handicap does not reflect their current ability or when a league rule requires an adjustment.

Per-player overrides are set from the Match Settings modal. The override applies only to that single match and does not affect the player's rolling average or future matches.

Fun Week Settings

Fun weeks are special weeks with a different format (e.g. 2-man scramble, 3-club challenge). The manager marks a week as a fun week when setting up the schedule.

  • Fun Weeks Count Toward Standings — When enabled (the default), fun week points are included in the season leaderboard like any other week. When disabled, fun week scores are excluded from the leaderboard. Players can always view fun week results on their schedule page regardless of this setting.

Skins Settings

  • Skins Enabled — Master toggle. Enables a hole-by-hole side game with optional buy-in.
  • Skins Mode — Gross, Net, or Both Gross & Net (runs two parallel pots).
  • No Strokes on Par 3s — When enabled, handicap strokes are not applied on par 3 holes during net skins calculation. This is a common house rule that keeps par 3 skins as a pure contest without handicap adjustment.
  • Per-Player Opt-In — Players can be opted in/out of skins individually from the manager Players tab.
  • Persistent Earnings — Weekly winners are persisted; ties carry the pot to the next hole (and unwon skins can carry to the next week). Surfaces on the player Results page as a "Skins Earnings" card and on the manager Results tab as "Skins Leaders."

Low Net Settings

  • Low Net Enabled — Master toggle. Enables a per-week pot for the lowest net score in the league.
  • Buy-In — Per-player weekly buy-in that funds the pot.
  • Carryover — When there's no unique winner (tie or no qualifying scores), the pot carries over to the next week. The next week's pot displays the carried amount with a "(N carryover)" label.
  • Persistent Earnings — Winners are persisted to the LowNetPayout table per week; the system reconciles automatically if a score is corrected. Surfaces on the player Results page as "Low Net Earnings" (hidden until first win) and on the manager Results tab as "Low Net Leaders."
  • Solo-when-partner-absent is eligible for Low Net (per product policy on team formats).
