Play the Card
When a player's opponent misses a week, the present player can still earn points by playing against the course card.
Play the Card ensures that players who show up every week are not penalized when their opponent is absent. Points are earned the same way as a regular match.
How It Works
Instead of comparing scores against an opponent, the present player's adjusted scores are compared hole by hole against the course's card values. Points are awarded using the same rules as a regular match -- the point values for hole wins, pushes, and the total bonus are determined by the league's scoring configuration.
Setup
The league manager sets a target score for each hole in the course configuration. This is the "card" that players compete against.
Play the Card is triggered automatically when a matchup is recorded with only one player's scores.
The manager enters the present player's hole-by-hole scores and RoundBoss calculates card points automatically.
Point Limits
Play the Card points are subject to the league's per-match cap (default: 12).
Card Table
The card table defines the target score for each hole that the player must beat. This is configured per course by the league manager.
When Does Play the Card Apply?
Play the Card is triggered automatically when a matchup is recorded with only one player's scores. The manager enters the present player's hole-by-hole scores, and RoundBoss calculates card points.
The opponent who missed receives the league's flat miss points (default 0) and can earn partial points back through a Makeup Round the next time they play. Only the first max misses per season misses (default 4) earn either; the 5th and later misses earn 0 points and no makeup.
Alternative: Use Average for Misses
If the league turns on Use average for misses in Scoring Configuration, Play the Card is replaced: the present player's score is compared against the absent player's rolling average as a virtual opponent (using the card table when one is configured), and the absent player always earns 0. If the absent player has no average yet, the present player falls back to the flat miss points.
