Makeup Rounds

When a player misses a week, they receive the league's flat miss points and enter a makeup queue to earn partial points back the next time they play. Both are limited by the league's max misses per season cap.

How Makeup Rounds Work

After an opponent plays the card against a missing player, the absent player is added to the makeup queue. The next week they play, their scores are compared against the card for a makeup round in addition to their regular match.

info

Makeup rounds give absent players a fair chance to recover some points, while the reduced cap ensures that showing up every week remains an advantage.

Makeup Round Scoring

Makeup rounds use the same hole-by-hole comparison as Play the Card, but with a reduced point cap (default: 9 compared to the standard per-match cap). The total bonus is still available within the makeup round. The makeup cap is configurable in Scoring Configuration.

info
A makeup round is scored against the at-the-time average — the average the player carried into the week the makeup is for (the snapshot frozen when that week locked), not their current average. Your average for a past week doesn't change as later rounds are played. See Handicap and Strokes for how the snapshot works.

Makeup scoring is retroactive and order-independent — RoundBoss re-derives makeups from scratch on every submit or edit, so entering weeks out of order still produces the correct result.

How It Works

1
Player misses a week

When a player is absent, their opponent earns points via Play the Card. The absent player is automatically added to the makeup queue.

2
Player returns

The next week the player shows up, their scores are compared against the card for a makeup round in addition to their regular match.

3
Points are capped

Makeup round points are subject to the reduced cap (default: 9 points), giving the returning player a chance to recover some -- but not all -- of the points their opponent earned.

Missed-Week Rules

Three league settings control what an absent player gets (see Scoring Configuration):

SettingDefaultEffect
Miss points0Flat points awarded to the absent player for the missed week.
Max misses per season4Cap on how many misses earn anything. It applies to both miss points and makeup rounds.
Use average for missesOffAlternative mode: the present player is scored against the absent player's rolling average instead of the card, and the absent player gets 0 (no miss points).
warning

With the default cap of 4: the first 4 misses each earn the miss points and a makeup round. The 5th and later misses earn 0 points and no makeup. Miss points are re-derived on every score submit, so entering weeks out of order still lands on the right result.

Point Caps

There is no league-wide weekly cap. Caps are applied per source: each regular match and Play the Card is capped at the per-match cap (default: 12), and each makeup round is capped at the makeup cap (default: 9). Both caps are configurable in Scoring Configuration.

Queue Management

The makeup queue is managed automatically. Players are added when they miss a week and removed once their makeup round is completed. Managers can view the current makeup queue from the week management screen.
