League Chat
RoundBoss includes a built-in league message board where players and managers can communicate in real time. Messages are visible to everyone in the league and persist for the life of the league.

How It Works
Every league has a dedicated chat channel. Players access it from their portal, and managers access it from the league dashboard. Messages are delivered instantly — no page refresh needed.
Messages appear instantly for all connected players and managers.
Players see an indicator when new messages have been posted since their last visit.
Messages from the league manager are visually distinguished so players can spot official announcements.
Chat loads the most recent 50 messages by default, with infinite scroll to load older history.
Message Rules
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Character limit | 500 characters per message |
| Rate limit | 1 message every 2 seconds per person |
| Safety | All message text is automatically sanitized |
| Isolation | Chat is per-league — no cross-league messaging |
Sending a Message
For Players
Players see the chat in their league portal. Opening the chat marks all messages as read, clearing the unread indicator. Players can scroll back through history to catch up on anything they missed.
For Managers
Managers have the same chat experience plus two extra capabilities:
- Manager identity — Messages sent by the manager display a badge so players know the message is from league leadership
- Clear chat — Managers with owner permissions can delete all messages in the league to start fresh
Manager Direct Messages
Managers can send private direct messages (DMs) to individual players. DMs appear as sub-tabs within the Chat tab, separate from the main league chat channel.
- Accessing DMs — In the Chat tab, managers see sub-tabs for the league chat and for each active DM conversation.
- Starting a DM — Select a player to open a private conversation. Only the manager and that player can see the messages.
- Player view — Players see their DMs as a separate sub-tab alongside the league chat in their portal.
- Same rules apply — DMs follow the same character limit, rate limit, and sanitization rules as league chat.
Group Chats
Managers can create named group chats for any subset of league members — useful for team-only side conversations, captain coordination, or weekly foursomes.
- Manager-created — Open the Chat tab, tap + Group, name the group, and pick at least 2 other members. Group chats are league-scoped (members must be in the league).
- Member management — The owner can open the Manage Members drawer to add or remove participants and transfer ownership to another member at any time.
- Mute — Each participant has their own mute toggle that silences notifications without leaving the group.
- Leave / rejoin — Participants can leave any time; if added back later, message history is restored.
- Per-league cap — Up to 10 groups per league.
- Group-aware DM tab — Group chats appear alongside league chat and 1-on-1 DMs in the same Chat tab. Push notifications respect mute state and exclude members who left.
Multiple Devices
Chat works on up to 2 devices at the same time (for example, phone and desktop simultaneously). Messages stay in sync across all your connected devices.
